Putting Safety First

We all have a responsibility to prevent accidents and injury at our own workplace by keeping our surroundings safe and doing our jobs in a safe manner.

NT WorkSafe works with you by setting, explaining and enforcing the safety standards needed to prevent accidents and protect your health and by ensuring you meet those standards.

The number and severity of work related injuries and disease can be reduced by:

  • employers and workers together taking responsibility for reaching high safety standards and improving safety performance;

  • safety management forming part of everyone's job;

  • controlling the range of hazards encountered at work through modern and practical safety standards;

  • people being trained and competent to use equipment, chemicals and machinery safely; and

  • machinery and equipment being designed, installed and maintained so it is safe for people to use.

NT WorkSafe in consultation with employers, employees, peak employer and union bodies and other stakeholders has agreed to target Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) prevention activities at the Northern Territory's worst OH&S performing industries over the next decade in an effort to significantly reduce the incidence of work related injury, disease and fatalities.
