Licensing

Certain occupational activities are considered high risk and require a worker to obtain the appropriate licence before they can commence work. The licences for these activities are issued by NT WorkSafe and applicants will have to demonstrate that appropriate training has been received.

NT WorkSafe issues the following licenses:

  • Asbestos removalist licence
  • Dangerous goods shotfirer licence
    • Shotfirer - Blasting
    • Shotfirer - Fireworks (display)
    • Shotfirer - Special effects
  • Dangerous goods gasfitter licence
    • Gasfitter - Domestic/commercial
    • Gasfitter - Provisional
    • Gasfitter - Autogas
  • Dangerous Goods - Driver Licence
  • Dangerous Goods - Explosives / SSAN Driver Licence 
  • High Risk Work Licences
    • Bridge and gantry crane
    • Concrete placing boom
    • Derrick crane
    • Dogging - Rigging
    • Elevating work platform
    • Forklift
    • Hoist
    • Mobile crane
    • Portal boom crane
    • Pressure equipment
    • Scaffolding

    • Vehicle loading crane

To apply for a licence, down load and fill out the appropriate form. The licence application forms will detail the requirements you require to apply for the licence, including documents you will need to submit with your application.

Interstate Licences

The Northern Territory recognises current licences issued by other Australian states and territories, with the exception of shotfirer and gasfitter licences. Workers who move to the Northern Territory can continue to use their interstate issued licence, however should renew to a Northern Territory issued licence, when their licence expires.

Lodging an application

All licence applications, including licence renewals applications, are to be lodged with the Territory Business Centre.
