2017 NT WorkSafe Gas Industry Forum

​Gas industry workers and employers in the Alice Springs region are invited to attend the 2017 NT WorkSafe Gas Industry Forum. The forum will provide attendees with information specific to the Northern Territory gas fitting industry and will be held:

Forum topics will include:

  • 2017 updates to the Australian Standards (AS1596 – The storage and handling of LP Gas);
  • commonly encountered issues with gas compliance;
  • LPG embedded network issues and expectations;
  • Alice Springs natural gas distribution network – APA Group’s Services and Activities (an Operator’s perspective); and
  • the role of NT WorkSafe in gas safety.

NT WorkSafe has secured three experienced industry stakeholders who will deliver presentations during the forum. A short overview of each presenter’s industry experience is provided for your information below.

Mr Ronald Jessen – Office of the Technical Regulator SA

Ronald has extensive experience in the gas industry, commencing as an apprentice plumber and gas fitter with the South Australian Gas Company. He later worked with Boral Energy and Origin Energy before managing his own gas service, installation, training and consulting business.

Ronald is a Senior Gas Installation and Appliance Inspector responsible for enforcing the requirements of the SA Gas Act and Regulations. His current role within the Office of the Technical Regulator monitors industrial and large commercial complex gas installations with elevated pressures (above 3 kPa) and the certification of Type B appliances by authorised certifiers.

Mr Michael Larsson – Origin Energy (SA/NT)

Michael has worked in the gas industry for 27 years, with experience as an advanced gasfitter (including Type B gas appliances) and as an LPG Terminal Manager. He is currently the Origin Energy Regional Service and Installation Manager for Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and Alice Springs.

Mr Glenn Sorensen – APA Group (SA)

Glenn has significant experience in the gas industry and is currently the APA Group’s Supervisor Technical and Regulatory Compliance. He is responsible for technical and regulatory compliance for both distribution networks and transmission pipelines in the Northern Territory, South Australia and regional Victoria.
Glenn provides advice to all APA staff and stakeholders such as Australian Gas Networks on obligations under relevant Australian and International Standards, including AS4645 – Distribution Networks and AS2885 – Transmission Pressure Pipelines.
